Just because…

May 2010. Just because it’s the start of the holidays and Danny wanted to do some baking and I wanted to try this recipe: Coconut cupcakes with coconut icing and flakes.

The icing turned out a bit too pink: they look even pinker in the photos because they aren’t taken in daylight.

They were very tasty though :-)

Lions, and pirates, and fairs! Oh, my!

May 2010. Made these for Ruby’s school spring fair. There should, of course, have been 12 of each, but we were having such a heat wave and all the cakes felt so soft, that I had to check they were fully baked!

Rx

April 2010. Rachel, my favourite pharmacist, wanted some pharmacy-themed cakes to take into work for her birthday. These were so much fun to do: I couldn’t resist decorating some with ‘Rx’, which is the symbol for prescriptions; especially since her name starts with R.

A morning’s worth of experiments

April 2010. I had a fun morning baking and trying out some of the ideas I had for designs, with my sister. Some worked, some didn’t… here are some of the more successful ones, and a shot of the very messy kitchen table.

Pretty in pink

April 2010. Ruby wanted a princess cake for her 5th birthday. The crowns were as princessy as I felt I could go, and the bright pink raspberry icing, of course: yum!

I couldn’t get a small enough crown cutter in time, so these are modified ivy leaf cutters. I think the gold glitter ‘bling’ and sweet jewels make them though.
